“When I first came to Miss Glass, I was in real bad shape. I had lost two kids to guns and my life and my other son’s life were in danger. They were shooting at my house and we had to leave. I had nowhere to go and no one to help me. Miss Glass put me in a Safe House where I was safe. It saved my life in more ways than one, because I didn’t want to live without my kids. She helped me live again; she helped me get a home, an income, and a life. I owe her my life.”

“I feel like the program has helped me in the biggest way as far as making my mood better and happier. These ladies here are the most uplifting women alive. They have helped me cope with my anger, anxiety, and just in general, they have helped me. This program has been the most helpful thing ever, it truly changed my life.”

“I am a current patient of the Brenda Glass Trauma Center. I have been here for almost 2 months. I was in an unsafe situation and was told to go to a shelter for my safety. I was reluctant to go because I did not want to be with a group of people I did not know, and I knew I wouldn’t feel safe or comfortable.

“When I found out about this program, it changed my life for the better. I was placed in a Safe Home with only one other person and that made me feel safe and comfortable. I am able to heal from my trauma and focus on bettering myself. The counseling sessions help me tremendously.

“This program helps me mentally, spiritually, and with lessons on life. The Brenda Glass Trauma Center has been by my side since the first day I stepped into their office. I am forever grateful to be in their care.”

Ruth, a 51-year-old single mother, was devastated after she lost two sons due to gun violence, just four months apart. Both were under the age of 25 and has assisted her in maneuvering through a number of systems in our society.

Ruth not only suffered the unbearable loss of her sons, but she now had to learn to comprehend legal documents and take care of the business for her household. Ruth reached out to the Brenda Glass Trauma Center, stating, “Had it not been for the TRC, I would still be living out of my car with no hope of life getting any better.” Today, she has her own apartment and is beginning to believe that life is worth living again.

John, a 30-year-old African American man, turned to the TRC after being shot while leaving a store. He had recently been released from prison and had little hope that anyone would help him during his time of need. The services offered by the Trauma Center helped him to have a safe place to recover medically while engaging in behavioral health services. John says that “The TRC saved my life. At a time when I had nowhere else to turn and did not believe that anyone cared, these people came through for me and helped me change my life.”

Shirley, a 42-year-old Hispanic female, had been in traditional mental health treatment for several years but nothing much had changed in her life or circumstances. After working with the Trauma Center, Shirley now states that “the services offered by the TRC have made a world of difference in how I view the world, myself, and the future. I now have the confidence and wherewithal to live independently and experience joy.”
